Mayor’s Corner
I would like to congratulate Main Street Barberton on their office launch, and officially welcome them to the City of Barberton.
Main Street Barberton’s goal is to promote new economic growth and development opportunities within our downtown. This already aligns with the goals of the city, but what really makes this a perfect partnership is their community-focused mindset. Main Street’s mission centers around preservation-based economic development, and they will be prioritizing the revitalization and upkeep of our historic downtown. This, along with their vision of promoting equal access to opportunity and inclusive engagement, shows they are a good fit for Barberton. Just like our office, they are committed to showcasing, serving and elevating the great opportunities and businesses already present within our city.
The launch of Main Street Barberton, a program through Heritage Ohio, was pioneered and made possible by the work of many local businesses, organizations, and individuals within our community. What began as an idea of the Barberton Community Foundation quickly picked up support from the Downtown Barberton Merchant’s Association, the City of Barberton, Neighborhood Development Services, Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Ignite Brewing, and several other local businesses.
This proactive involvement enabled Main Street Barberton to quickly form, making it one of 50+ Main Street Programs taking root across Ohio. Managed by a passionate board of directors, all of whom are leaders within our community, they truly are positioned to do great things. They will be promoting upcoming event on their Facebook page, and you can learn more about all they offer at mainstreetbarberton.com
I hope you will all join me in welcoming them to our city. I am proud of our community for making Main Street Barberton a reality, and am looking forward to all they will accomplish!
