Mayor Judge is proud to announce major improvements coming to our city parks in 2023. Decker Park will see the addition of a nearly 12,000 square foot skatepark and new restrooms!
The all-wheel skatepark, which will be open to wheelchairs, bikes, rollerblades, and skateboards, will feature a variety of equipment. Quarter pipes of varying height, half pipes, stairs, wedges, jump boxes, and grind rails will be included in the design. Restrooms will be installed adjacent to the skatepark. The city plans to gather public input on the final design of the skatepark to ensure that skateboarders can provide an opinion on proper flow of the park between equipment.
Construction on the park is set to begin in summer 2023 to upgrade the parking area, pour the concrete pad, and install restrooms. Skate equipment will be installed in fall 2023. The cost of the skatepark is $400,000 while the restrooms are $125,000, for a total project cost of $525,000.
“The skatepark is going to be an exciting addition to our community,” stated Mayor Judge. “This is going to impact Barberton youth in a positive way. We are creating a safe place for them to have fun and be active. With input from local skateboarders, we should be able to create something really special.”
